A dozen venues are booked around Fort St. John in preparation for hundreds of dancers, musicians and singers to descend on the city from May 31 to June 4 for the Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival. Entries are starting to come into the Provincial office as gifted young performing artists have already started qualifying at local festivals across the province. The festival will feature outstanding performances in Ballet, Stage and Modern Dance, Piano, Strings and Chamber, Woodwinds and Brass, Classical Voice, Musical Theatre, Vocal Variety and Speech Arts. The level of ability and training in performers as young as ten years of age, really has to be seen to be believed! Peace region performers will have a chance to punch a ticket to their home Provincials at the Peace River North Festival from April 10-17, 2016.
Local organizers have been meeting and planning for more than a year and, with only three months to go, work on the event has kicked into high gear. Look for the festival booth at the Fort St. John trade show and ask how you can get involved. Festival passes will be on sale for the first time. For just ten dollars you can support the event and get to see any regular session in the festival.
An event like the Provincials does not succeed without the support of the community. Many volunteers are needed to help with registration, venue admission and check-in tables and other tasks. The time commitment can be as small as 3 or 4 hours at a festival session.
Financial support is also welcome, from small donations to larger corporate sponsorships. For more information on sponsorship opportunities, contact Jocelyn at 250-793-0272 or by e-mail at jocelyn@bizzybody.ca. The sponsorship package can also be downloaded from the Peace River North Festival website at www.prn-performingarts.com. Festival updates and schedules will be posted on the website over the weeks leading up to the Provincials. For more information, contact Margaret May at mecaversmay@shaw.ca or 250-785-2001.
