North Peace Potters' Guild

The Guild was established In 1969 to provide space for work in clay, to raise awareness of ceramics , and to provide educational opportunities in the community. In its present incarnation the guild operates a members' studio at the Artspost location. Classes are offered regularly for adults. Instruction in hand-building,(with some sculpture), wheel throwing and glaze discovery. Classes for children are offered during most sessions.

The guild welcomes interested adult individuals to the supporting (non studio use) membership. Studio membership is available when established criteria are met. All members, including supporting members receive a discounted rate for workshops, regular email news, and are encouraged to participate in fund raising and other events. All members have voting rights.  Supporting membership is $35.00 a year. The Guild welcomes your interest.

Other activities include workshops, usually at least one sale a year, the “Summer Solstice Chili Bowl Bash”. We  have a mug wall (hand made mugs for sale) open on Saturday mornings: 10am until 1.00pm. As well the membership participates in other fund raising activities for the Guild and for the Artspost facility.

10320-94th Ave. (North side of the Highway opposite the Wholesale Store, on the corner behind Hill Crest Water). Side door of the Artspost.

If you aren't able to download the brochure from this site it is available to view at the Artspost in the meeting room or online at Energeticcity, at the North Peace Potters' Guild blog. If you view it here you won't, I think, see the pictures.

Attached is the brochure and registration form for classes starting for adults in September. Registration starts at the Guild studio, (side door at the Artspost) on Saturday at 10 am. Registration is on a first come basis. Full fee is required at the time of registration.

Who would have guessed, when we dreamed up this fund raising idea, that we would be talking about a 5th anniversary of a very popular event?

The event held every year near the longest day, allows people who love to own and use hand made pottery, and who love to eat chili, to do both in one evening.

A $30.00 ticket buys you chili dinner, accompanied by dessert and non alcoholic beverages, served in a bowl hand made by a member of the Guild,  You get to take home your choice of bowl. This being a majorfundraiser there are extras as course. There is a silent auction, a 50/50draw, and a pinata bash at the end of the evening. The door prize is a session of classes at the Guild. (for September or January).

The Chili is an event in itself. Six local "chili chefs" cook their recipe at the designated kitchen during the afternoon. They remain to serve their recipe in the evening, all the while marketing their chili and vie for votes, enough to win their name on the covetted chili trophy.

Only 100 tickets are sold. They are available at the Artpost office on weekday mornings (10320 94th Avenue), the Guild studio (same place, side door) on Saturdays from 10.00 - 1.00pm and from the Hair Bin during business hours.(Thank you Marnie and Lorraine). Unfortunately we are unable to hold tickets without payment.

Children are of course welcome but the Guild regrets that special pricing is not available.

The pinata at the end of the evening is a favourite with the younger set.

Last year the event helped to pay for the installation of a kiln. Funds go towards new equipment and to the operation of the studio for the community.  It is an expensive endeavour. Your support is much appreciated.

A really good time is had by all. Come join us.

Watch for preview pictures of the bowls, coming to this site soon. Meanwhile take a look at the poster. It shows a selection of bowls from last year and contains all the information you should need.

Whistler, BC. potter, Vincent Massey is coming to Fort St. John for a hands on workshop in mid February. Attached is the workshop poster/brochure. The workshop is suitable for people at most levels of clay work though not for those who have no clay experience at all. Previous Potters' Guild class members are welcome to attend. Please contact the Guild if you have questions.

Priority (paid) registration for Potters' Guild members in good standing until January 20th.

Enrollment  for the hands on portion is limited to 12 participants. The Friday evening event is open to the general public, including interested prospective pottery students.

Classes for children start again on January 18th. Attached is the brochure for the classes along with a registration form. Here are some pictures of work made by children during the fall 2011 class. The instructor is Darcy Danczak.

Thank you all for your support of the Guild in 2011. Happy New Year. On to great potting.
